Finding Your Inner Geologist

The story is broadly familiar: 50 million years ago India collides with Asia, giving birth to the Himalaya. But what happens to the crust when continents collide? What do the rocks tell us? An exploration of the high Himalaya and the stories its geology holds.

Dr. Suvrat Kher is a sedimentary geologist. He did his PhD at Florida State University, specialising in limestones and sedimentary basin evolution, and has worked in Geographic Information Systems and remote sensing. He lives in Pune, and for over ten years has pursued geology outreach through his blog Rapid Uplift (@rapiduplift). He also leads geology excursions to the Western Ghats and the Himalayas.
